Hill Leads Lady Flyers at St. Andrews Fall Invitational
Sophomore Amanda Hill shot a personal college-best round of 78 on Tuesday and also posted the best 36-hole score for the Sandhills CC women's golf team at the St. Andrews Fall Invitational held at Scotch Meadows in Laurinburg.
The Lady Flyers return to action on Saturday and Sunday hosting the SCC Invitational at Legacy Golf Links in Aberdeen. The first golfers are expected to tee off at about 12:30pm with teams from USC Sumpter, Fayetteville Tech and Spartanburg Methodist also participating.
Hill's 87-78-165 total placed her in 8th place individually. As the only junior college squad in the field of six teams, the Lady Flyers finished fourth in the event won by Brenau University, an NAIA school from Gainesville, Ga.
Also for Coach Herb Pike's squad, Parker Watson finished 11th with scores of 86-83-169, Danielle Mirovich came in 15th after rounds of 92-84-176 and Alicia Dunlap was 27th with scores of 115-113-128.
"That was super and it could have been even better," the coach said of Hill's second round performance. "I was also pleased with Alicia's improvement, and Parker and Danielle are working hard. Everyone on the team knows they are capable of playing better than they have in the past and that's a good thing."
A product of Orange High School in Hillsborough, Hill is pursuing an Associate in Arts degree and hopes to continue her golf career at a four-year college next year. She needed only 29 putts to complete Tuesday's round.
"I one-putted a lot and my chipping was really good," she said. "I was really happy with my score."
