Lady Flyers Tap West Montgomery High School Again for Outside Hitter
Recent signee, Ivy Futrell, brings all-conference credentials and the experience of contributing to a successful high school program to the Sandhills Community College volleyball team in the fall.
The 5-foot-8 outside hitter helped the West Montgomery High School team finish second in the Yadkin Valley Conference with a record of 14-2. The Warriors made it to the second round of the state playoffs and finished with an overall record of 19-7 after going 12-0 and 20-5 the year before.
Futrell was credited with 188 kills and was tied for the team lead in service aces with 50. She received all-conference honors as a junior and a senior, and was also crowned homecoming queen in the fall.
"Ivy will be a tremendous asset to the Sandhills volleyball program," West Montgomery coach Stefanie Panzer said. "She will always give you 110 percent, while keeping a huge smile on her face. With her work ethic and dedication on and off the court, nothing will hold her back from being successful."
The daughter of Brad and Allison Futrell plans to enroll in the nursing program at Sandhills. A state champion in the shot put, and a football player, her father was inducted into the Union Pines Hall of Fame in 1991. A brother, Eli, is a freshman pitcher on the Methodist University baseball team.
Ivy will be reunited with former West Montgomery teammate Kaitlyn Lisenby who was a member of the Flyers' squad that won both Region X regular season and tournament titles last fall.
"We are excited to have Ivy join the Flyer Family," Flyers' coach Alicia Riggan said. "We think she will be a great addition to the front line for the Fall. She brings a competitive drive and a great attitude."
Futrell was attracted to Sandhills by the Nursing program, the Flyers' coaches and players, and the campus environment. While at West Montgomery she received academic honors and was involved in HOSA Club and Beta Club. She also volunteered for special needs events and elderly assistance.
