High Energy Lady Flyers Sweep Titans in Home Opener
The Sandhills Community College volleyball team jumped on visiting Guilford Tech right from the start on Tuesday evening and never let up.
The result was a 25-13, 25-7 and 25-19 victory as the Lady Flyers improved to 2-2 on the season. The Division II Titans dropped to 0-2.
"I think we just came together as a team," said libero L'Asia Jackson, a first team All-Region 10 selection last season. "I feel like we have a bond and really build each other up.
"We've worked really hard at practice to get chemistry and we brought it all today."

Tuesday's first set began with Lady Flyers middle hitter Keke Lawrence finishing a set by Lannah Huneycutt and ended on a kill by Dajsha Fields. The Flyers jumped out to a 10-1 lead in the second and trailed for the only time of the evening at 1-0 in the third.
Lawrence finished with a team-high seven kills followed by Fields with six. The pair were efficient, combining to finish 13 of their 22 attacks. Huneycutt led the team with 12 assists to go along with nine digs and accounted for four of the team's 13 service aces.
Jackson, who was sixth in Division III with 70 aces last season, also had four and led the team with 10 digs.
"It was awesome to see her get aggressive serving," Riggan said of the product of Pinecrest High School. "She's great on defense and her ball control is always good. She wants to touch every ball."
Fields, a 5-foot-11 outside hitter, was the Robeson County Player of the Year and and earned all-conference honors at Fairmont High School last season. She attacked more aggressively than in the previous three matches.
"Coach told me to play to win and I tried my best," she said.
Riggan continues to see progress as the five sophomores and eight freshmen learn to play together.
"I thought Dajsha really stepped up today," the coach said. "We've been on kind of a roller coaster and it was good to see the girls just take off today. You could feel the energy on the court as well as on the sidelines.
"It was nice to see the excitement on the home court and get that win."
