Continuing its late season surge, the Sandhills Community College volleyball team swept both host Rockingham CC and Patrick Henry CC in a Region 10 tri-match held on Saturday in Wenthworth.
The No. 10 ranked in NJCAA Division III Lady Flyers clinched the Region 10 regular season title, improving to 9-0 in the conference and 17-11 overall. They don't play again until next Saturday when they host Caldwell Tech at 11 a.m. and Davidson-Davie CC at 3 p.m. as part of a Sophomore Day tri-match.
In between, Caldwell Tech and Davidson-Davie face-off at 1 p.m.
Keke Lawrence with 14 kills and JaLasia Ray with 10 led the way in the 25-13,25-18 and 25-23 victory over a Rockingham squad that led throughout most of the third set.
The leaders in digs for the winners were L'Asia Jackson with 19 and Alyssa Maragelis with 11. The assist leaders were Lannah Huneycutt with 21 and Alexis Hinson with 13. Huneycutt was also credited with 11 digs.
The 25-20, 25-14 and 25-12 sweep of Patrick Henry was the Flyers' seventh in nine Region 10 matches this season.
Dajsha Fields recorded four of her team-high nine kills in the first set. The second set was closed out with consecutive kills by Olivia Barlowe, Lawrence and Anna Ty Ivey, leading up to a one-sided final set.
Other statistical leaders for the winners were Lawrence with seven kills, Huneycutt with 27 assists and five service aces, and Jackson and Abby Quick with 14 and 13 digs respectively.
In next Saturday's attractive tri-match at The Hangar, the Lady Flyers will first meet a Caldwell Tech squad (4-15, 3-4) that extended them to five sets two weeks ago.
Following a match between Caldwell Tech and Davidson, the Flyers will try to pull an upset against a Division II Storm squad (17-5) that swept them back on August 31.
Jackson, Lawrence, Quick, Ray and Mackenzie Swett are the sophomores scheduled to be honored.
