Huneycutt Honored as NJCAA Division III Offensive Player of the Week
Sandhills Community College freshman Lannah Huneycutt has been named the NJCAA Division III Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week of October 19-26.
The Lady Flyers setter's contributions included a total of 73 assists, nine service aces, 29 digs and 11 kills in three matches. She recorded 46 assists and eight aces with only one service error on Saturday, helping her team win the Region 10 tournament title with wins over Caldwell Tech and Central Carolina Community College.
"I was very surprised to say the least," the graduate of Graystone Day School said. "It makes me proud of all the hard work I put in this year and knowing it's paying off."
An Associate in Science major, Huneycutt currently leads the team in assists and service aces, and is second in digs. She has been tutored by Assistant Coach Holly Mandeville, a setter in her playing days.
"Lannah is one of the hardest working student/athletes I have ever met, on the court and in the classroom," Mandeville said. "She has been putting in the extra work all season, whether it's extra reps in the gym or watching film. We're proud she's getting recognized for all the hard work she has been putting in."
Huneycutt currently leads the team in assists and service aces, and is second in digs. According to Head Coach Alicia Riggan, the award is an honor for Huneycutt and Flyers volleyball.
"This is the first time we have had players honored back-to-back, on defense last week (L'Asia Jackson) and offense this week. I'm super-proud of Lannah and her hard work and dedication this season."
