Flyers Sign State Champion Ashlynn Overby
Sandhills Community College Volleyball is excited to announce the signing of Ashlynn Overby, a decorated outside hitter/defensive specialist from Ayden-Grifton High School and Top Caliber Volleyball Club.
Standing at 5'10", Overby brings six years of playing experience, a physical presence at the net, and a winning mindset to the Flyers as she continues her academic and athletic career at SCC. She is currently undecided on her major.
Overby joins the Flyers after an outstanding high school career highlighted by team success and individual accolades. She helped lead Ayden-Grifton to a 27–7 record and the 2025 3A North Carolina State Championship, while earning numerous honors along the way. Her resume includes All-Conference selections, NCVBCA All-State First Team honors, multiple All-Region recognitions, and repeated appearances on the AVCA Phenom Watchlist. She also surpassed the 1,000-kill milestone during her high school career and was part of a state championship run that included an East Regional title.
In addition to volleyball, Overby lettered in track and competes in flag football, showcasing her athletic versatility. She has also remained active in the volleyball community by helping with younger athletes at Top Caliber Volleyball Club, where she also competed at the travel level.
Overby chose Sandhills because of the program's culture and coaching staff, noting the family environment and opportunity for continued growth as key factors in her decision. She is most looking forward to building chemistry with new teammates, continuing to develop as a student-athlete, and contributing to the Flyers' winning tradition. She is also planning to try out for the Sandhills beach volleyball program.
Flyers Head Coach Alicia Riggan is excited about the impact Overby will bring to the program stating, "Ashlynn is an all-around powerhouse who's competitive, fearless, and ready to make an immediate impact with a hard swing and a dominant block. We're thrilled to welcome her to the Flyer family."
