Flyers Split with Richard Bland on Sophomore Day; Eye Region 10 Championship Next Week

On an overcast Saturday afternoon at the Sandhills beach courts, the Flyers wrapped up regular season play by splitting a doubleheader with Region 10 rival Richard Bland College. The Statesmen edged Sandhills in the opener, 3-2, before the Flyers bounced back in match two with a 3-2 victory of their own.

The day began with a ceremony honoring the Flyers' six sophomores: Aiden Bullard, Jenna Luquer, Lainey Mullins, Nikki Lambert, Caroline Bradford, and Zoey Hall. Parents, Coaches, and teammates recognized the group's leadership, effort, and contributions over the past two seasons.

Match 1: Richard Bland 3, Sandhills 2
Richard Bland took the early match, sweeping the top three flights in straight sets. Despite strong rallies from the Flyers, the Statesmen secured key points down the stretch.

In the No. 4 flight, Zoey Hall and Katelyn Bunting provided a spark for Sandhills, rallying for a 16-21, 21-18, 15-7 win. The Flyers also picked up a victory in the No. 5 flight by forfeit.

Match 2: Sandhills 3, Richard Bland 2
Sandhills responded in the afternoon matchup, with Bullard and Lambert grinding out a gritty three-set win at the top spot: 21-18, 10-21, 15-12. Hall and Bunting remained undefeated on the day, rolling to a dominant 21-7, 21-13 win at No. 4. Once again, Sandhills secured a forfeit at No. 5 to seal the team victory.

With the split, the Flyers now turn their attention to Tuesday's final regular season contests at St. Andrews University followed by the Region 10 Championship, set for Friday, April 18. Sandhills will take on Wake Tech in a semifinal match at 11 AM, with the winner advancing to face Richard Bland in the championship at 1 PM.
