Flyers Beach Opens 2026 at Catawba College
Sandhills Community College opened the 2026 beach volleyball season Tuesday with a road doubleheader against NCAA Division II member Catawba College, which competes in the South Atlantic Conference. Catawba claimed both matches 5-0 on their home sand.
Despite the scores, the Flyers gained valuable early-season experience against a strong DII opponent. The No. 3 pair of Emery Freeman and Reagan Smith delivered competitive sets in both matches, while Kennedy Koziarz and Jaselyn Fink showed growth at the No. 5 position, including tighter set scores in the nightcap. All Flyers pairs showed growth throughout the afternoon, with several competing in their first ever collegiate beach volleyball match.
The doubleheader marked the season opener for both programs, with Sandhills moving to 0-2. The Flyers now turn their focus to their home opener next Wednesday, hosting Salem College in a doubleheader at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
