Sandhills Falls to Southern Virginia in Double Header
The Sandhills Community College Flyers hosted Southern Virginia University Knights for a Wednesday doubleheader on March 25, with matches played at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Southern Virginia secured a pair of 4-1 victories.
In match one, the Flyers earned a point at the top flight as Brooke Emore and Olivia Rosy picked up a three-set win over Callie Tuckfield and Tiari Puriri, 21-13, 23-25, 15-10. The Knights responded by taking the next four flights. Brynn Keeling and Charity Elam defeated Katelyn Bunting and Reagan Malpass in three sets in the twos. Brookelyn Madland and Gabi Hale controlled the threes in straight sets, while Charlotte Wilde and Sophie Larsen secured the fours. Baylee Savage and Emily Peterson closed out the match in the fives to give Southern Virginia the 4-1 win. In exhibition play, Claire Harris and Hannah Welch defeated Kennedy Koziarz and Olivia Bowman.
Southern Virginia carried that momentum into match two, earning another 4-1 victory. Tuckfield and Puriri defeated Emore and Rosy in straight sets in the ones. Sandhills responded in the twos, where Bunting and Malpass earned a three-set win over Keeling and Elam, 21-19, 14-21, 15-13. The Knights claimed the remaining flights, as Madland and Hale took the threes, Wilde and Larsen edged the fours in a tight second set, and Mikki Prows and Anne Downs secured the fives. Harris and Allyson Arguello added an exhibition win over Koziarz and Bowman.
Sandhills will now prepare for its final home matches of the season on April 1 against Wake Tech at 3pm and 5pm, which will also serve as Sophomore Day.
