Flyers Sweep Rhinos in Region 10 Beach Volleyball
The Sandhills Community College Flyers delivered a dominant performance, sweeping a doubleheader against the Gaston College Rhinos with back-to-back 5-0 victories at the Sandhills beach courts this afternoon.
In the opening match, the Flyers controlled every flight in straight sets. The top pair of Brooke Emore and Olivia Rosy led the way with a commanding 21-10, 21-4 win over Addie Key and Brianna Krent. In the twos, Katelyn Bunting and Reagan Malpass earned a 21-11, 21-10 victory against Addison Abernethy and Angelina Diaz. Taylor Miller and Jaselyn Fink secured the threes flight with a 21-12, 21-19 win over Raelyn Miller-Lawrence and Ashley York. Emery Freeman and Alyssa Ingle were sharp in the fours, defeating Madison Herms and Monica Uribe 21-10, 21-9. Reagan Smith and Jacque Holden closed out the match with a forfeit in the fifth flight, sealing the 5-0 sweep.
Match two brought a bit more resistance, but the Flyers remained in control. Emore and Rosy bounced back after dropping the first set to defeat Key and Abernethy 18-21, 21-19, 15-8. Bunting and Malpass stayed consistent in the twos with a 21-15, 21-12 win over Krent and Diaz. In the threes, Miller and Fink dominated with a 21-9, 21-8 victory over Miller-Lawrence and Uribe. Freeman and Ingle showed resilience in the fours, rallying for a 19-21, 21-5, 15-5 win against York and Herms. Smith and Holden once again secured the fifth point via forfeit, completing the second 5-0 sweep of the day.
The Flyers are on the road Tuesday taking on Wake Tech in a Region 10 double-header at 3pm and 5pm on the beach courts at Carolina Legacy volleyball club, before returning home Wednesday for a non-region showdown with Southern Virginia University.
