What his Flyers have accomplished in the time from those humble beginnings remains nothing short of impressive. Also the program has won the Region X Championship five times (2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015). All Americans under Ulrich’s tutelage include Chris Horne (2009, 2010), Nick Thompson (2013, National Medalist 2014), Ediz Kemaloglu (2014, 2015), Cody Roberts (2014, 2015), Alex Meade (2013), Brandon Grzywacz (2015), Nick Kroustalis (2015, 2016), Chris Kraft (2018), Brady Childers (2018), Koby Markham (2018), Trey Capps (National Medalist 2019), Grant Gilbert (2019), Nick Agapion (2021), Andreas Huber (2021, National Medalist 2022), Alex Martin (2021), Austin Wood (2021), Carson Witherspoon (2021), Adam Hathaway (2021), Ben Read (National Medalist 2023, 2024), Alex Martin (2023), Logan Hay (2023), Noah Maness (2023), Watcharkan Chankarn (2023, 2024), Daniel Aitken (National Medalist 2024), Liam Harris (2024), Landon Cabingas (2024, 2025), Vegas Melen (National Medalist 2025), Wyatt Beaver (2025), and William Mitchell (2025).

He turned pro after college and was a member of the Web.Com Tour in 1991 and 92. In 2011 he captured the Carolinas PGA Professional Championship at Kiawah Island, SC. The victory earned Gus a spot in the 2012 PGA Professional Championship and a spot in the PGA Tour’s 2012 Wyndham Championship. He’s also garnered two North Carolina Open Championships.
While currently serving as the Director of Instruction at Pinewild Country Club (Pinehurst) he has also worked locally at Pine Needles and Forest Creek as an instructor and assistant golf professional. He remains highly regarded as a teacher and a golf professional.
