Flyers Take Third in Stitch Invite

The Sandhills Community College golf team turned in a strong showing on their home course at Longleaf Golf & Family Club, with the Flyers A team finishing third overall in a competitive field.

Sandhills A posted a team score of 306 (+18), finishing just behind tournament champion Palm Beach State College (+1) and Methodist University B (+15). The Flyers were paced by a consistent effort across the lineup, highlighted by Vegas Melen, who led the team with a 74 (+2). Melen's steady round set the tone, while Will Dement followed with a 76, and Wyatt Beaver added a 77 to round out the top three scorers.

Drake Hull contributed a 79, overcoming a challenging front nine to bounce back with a strong even-par 37 on the back nine. Trace Wallace also shot a 79 but was not included in the team scoring.

As a team, the Flyers showed resilience, improving on the back nine with a 152 team total, compared to 154 on the front, demonstrating their ability to adjust and compete late in the round.

The Sandhills B team also gained valuable experience, finishing eighth overall with a score of 317 (+29). Sebastian Haug led the B squad with a solid 75, while Michael Switzer followed with a 79.

Overall, it was a productive outing for the Flyers on a familiar course, with both teams gaining momentum as they continue their spring season.
