Flyers Sit Fourth After Opening Round at Spartanburg Methodist Fall Invitational
The Sandhills Community College men's golf team sits in fourth place after the opening round of the Spartanburg Methodist Pioneers Fall Invitational, carding a team total of 298 (+10) on Monday at Cherokee National Golf Course.
Host Spartanburg Methodist College leads the 11-team field at 285 (-3), followed by Columbia International University (+7, 295) and Bluefield University (+9, 297).
Sophomore Vegas Melen paced the Flyers with an even-par 72, placing him in a tie for fifth overall. Sebastian Hannisdahl Haug followed with a steady 74 (+2) to sit tied for 11th. Trace Wallace carded a 75 (+3), tying for 13th, while Wyatt Beaver added a 77 (+5) to tie for 23rd. Rounding out the Sandhills lineup, Drake Hull finished with an 84 (+12).
The Flyers are just 13 strokes off the lead heading into today's final round as they look to make a push up the leaderboard at Cherokee National.
