The Sandhills Community College men's golf team opened the spring season with a third place finish at the Central Carolina CC Cougar Classic held at Quail Ridge Golf Course in Sanford on Monday and Tuesday.

Individually, sophomores Andreas Huber (79-77-156) and Andrew Crawford (77-79-156) tied for eighth place to lead the Flyers at the event involving four teams and a total of 31 golfers.

Georgia Military College posted rounds of 303-300-603 to claim the team title followed by Averett University with scores of 307-308-615. The Flyers came in at 322-311-633 followed by Davidson-Davie CC with rounds of 358-363-721.

The other members of the Flyers' five-man team for the event included Teddy Sluser, 85-72-157, Carson Witherspoon 78-81-159, Adam Hathaway 82-81-163 and Nick Agapion 83-81-164.  Crawford and Noah Maness, 81-80-161 competed for the Flyers as individuals.

The even-par 72's by Slusher and Dylan Humphries of Georgia Military were the low rounds of the tournament.

"We were definitely a little rusty," Flyers' Coach Gus Ulrich said. "The course played tricky and very, very wet."

"Nonetheless we have work to do. We're looking forward to Foxfire and the Brown Intercollegiate."

That tournament will be held on the Red Fox Course at Foxfire on March 11 and 12.
