Huber leads Flyers on Day One of NJCAA DIII Golf
Andreas Huber shot a one-under par 71 to lead the the Sandhills Community College men's golf team at Tuesday's opening round of the NJCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships at Chautauqua Golf Course in Chautauqua, NY.
Overall the Flyers finished the lightning-interrupted first day in third place, three strokes behind the leader, Minnesota State Tech, and one behind the defending champion Georgia Military College.
Huber, sophomore from Bruneck, Italy is the individual tournament leader after a round that included five birdies. Wyatt Blomseth of Minnesota State and Dylan Humphries of Georgia Military are both two strokes back after rounds of 73.
The Flyers' team score of 304 also included a 76 by Nick Agapion, a 78 by Carson Witherspoon and a 79 by Adam Hathaway. Andrew Crawford posted an 81 as the team's fifth player.
Following about a two hour weather delay, Witherspoon rallied to shoot even-par on the back nine.
In all, eight teams and a total of 47 golfers are competing on the 6,559 yard course. Crawford will be the first of the Flyers to tee off on Wednesday at 9:50 am. The 72-hole event concludes on Friday.
