Nine different Sandhills Community College basketball players scored during a 29-2 first half run that paved the way for a 100- 55 victory over Dabney S. Lancaster CC on Saturday afternoon in Clifton Forge, VA.

Joey McMullin connected on nine of his 11 shots from the field and led the way with 20 points. The freshman also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. Sophomore Camron Zachary made all nine of his free throws and finished with 17 points.

The Flyers improved to 2-0 in the Region 10 conference and 12-6 overall with the sweep of the back-to-back games against the Roadrunners who dropped to 9-5 and 0-2.

Conference play continues with a 7 p.m. game at The Hangar against Central Carolina CC (8-7, 2-0) on Wednesday. It will be the Flyers' first home game since December 18.

"It's a game that has implications for hanging banners," Flyers Coach Mike Apple said by phone afterward. "The first one you get to hang is the conference champion banner.

"There are still a lot of games to play, but we definitely want to defend our home court. They (Cougars) have a good team and we'll have to bring our "A" game to be competitive."

With the Flyers leading 13-10, a pair of free throws by Zachary, followed by five points in a row from McMullin, opened the floodgates. Later, consecutive baskets by Bryan Quiller added up to a 17-0 run.

A basket by Tre McCrary put the Roadrunners back on the board, but a three by the Flyers' Kendall Wooldridge set off a 12-0 burst that made it 42-12. The final two points of the first half by K.J. Perry made it 50-14.

Point guard Keegan Brayboy handed out 11 assists in the game to go along with six rebounds, three steals and a blocked shot. Perry scored a season-high 11 points. Another freshman, LeNijel Robinson, and Quiller, contributed 10 points apiece.

With Quiller drawing the initial defensive assignment, McCrary, who led the Roadrunners with 23 points in Friday's game, was limited to nine points. The Flyers made 86.8 per cent of their free throws in the two games combined (33-for-38).

Freshman Alon Hanani missed both games due to a sprained ankle.
