The Sandhills Community College men's basketball team closed out the first half of its home schedule in strong fashion, earning an 88–75 victory over Pitt Community College on Wednesday night at home.
Pitt Community College held a 44–37 lead at halftime after shooting efficiently in the opening half, but the Flyers responded with a dominant second-half performance. Sandhills outscored Pitt 51–31 after the break, using improved defensive intensity and control of the glass to swing the momentum.
Isaiah Upchurch led all Flyers with 18 points, shooting 6-of-12 from the field and a perfect 5-for-5 at the free-throw line. Nylikk Troutman added 14 points, seven rebounds, and three assists, while Titus Cunningham chipped in 13 points off the bench. Mylon Campbell contributed nine points, and Kendall Smith added eight points and four assists to round out a balanced scoring effort.
Cristian Sias was a force inside for Sandhills, finishing with a game-high 14 rebounds to go along with four points and strong defensive play. Zack Noel posted eight points and 11 rebounds, helping the Flyers dominate the boards 49–35.
Sandhills also made the most of its opportunities at the foul line, converting 17-of-20 free throws, while holding Pitt to just 12.5 percent shooting from beyond the arc in the second half.
The win caps the Flyers' final home game before the Christmas break, with a road game at Catawba Valley Friday night and momentum heading into the second half of the season.
