Sandhills Community College saw its Region 10 tournament run come to an end Sunday afternoon, falling to Virginia Peninsula Community College, 100–71, in the NJCAA Region 10 Championship game.
The Gators used a balanced offensive attack and strong interior presence to pull away, shooting efficiently throughout the contest while placing five players in double figures.
Zack Noel led the Flyers with 12 points and seven rebounds, while Isaiah Upchurch added 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting, including a three-pointer. Amarie Liburd contributed 11 points and four rebounds, and Nysheed Williams chipped in eight points off the bench. Mylon Campbell battled inside for eight points and five rebounds in 32 minutes of action.
Virginia Peninsula was paced by freshman guard Jordan Watlington, who delivered a dominant performance with 33 points on 12-of-15 shooting and 9-of-13 from the free-throw line. Jakobe Reed added 15 points, knocking down all eight of his free throws, while Chris Cyrus contributed 12 points and six rebounds. Dominique Fields Jr. and Emmanuel Angila each scored eight points as the Gators' depth proved decisive.
The Gators' efficiency was the difference, as they consistently converted around the rim and capitalized at the free-throw line to maintain separation. Despite continued effort on the glass and defensive pressure from Noel and the Flyers, Sandhills was unable to slow Virginia Peninsula's offensive rhythm.
