Flyers Hold Off Oxford Emory in Sunday Home Win
Sandhills Community College earned a bounce-back Region 10 victory on Sunday afternoon, defeating Oxford College of Emory University 92–86 at The Hangar.
The Flyers took a 44–38 lead into halftime and matched Oxford Emory point for point in the second half to secure the six-point win. Sandhills shot 46.6 percent from the field and controlled the glass with 43 rebounds.
Zack Noel led the Flyers with 16 points and 11 rebounds to record his second double-double of the weekend. Mylon Campbell added 13 points and three assists, while Titus Cunningham provided a spark off the bench with 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Zori Island contributed 11 points and six assists, and Isaiah Upchurch finished with nine points and three blocks.
Amarie Liburd also grabbed 11 rebounds, helping Sandhills generate second-chance opportunities throughout the game. The Flyers went 21-of-33 from the free throw line and forced 12 steals defensively.
Sandhills will look to carry this momentum into the final week of regular season play, with three games this week. The Flyers are on the road Wednesday for a Region 10 game against Patrick and Henry at 6pm, before returning to the Hangar for a 3pm game on Saturday against Mt. Zion, and a 1pm Region 10 game on Sunday against Camp Community College. Saturday is Sophomore day for the Flyers.
