McMullin and Quiller Combine for 50 points as Flyers Defeat Hosanna Bible

Joey McMullin poured in 27 points and Bryan Quiller added 23 to lead the Sandhills Community College basketball team to a 92-83 victory over Hosanna Bible College on Tuesday evening at The Hangar.

The Flyer forwards each scored 15 points in the second half to help hold off a Warbirds squad that cut what was once a 15-point deficit to four with 8:50 remaining in the game.

The Flyers, 19-6 for the season, get right back at it on Wednesday when they entertain Wren College, starting at 7 p.m.

With the Flyers leading 29-24 late in the first half, McMullin scored eight quick points off the bench to help his team pull away. K.J. Perry was fouled hard as he drained a three at the 1:47 mark and went on to complete the four-point play, making it 45-30.

Moments later, Kendall Wooldridge beat the halftime buzzer with a floater as the Flyers took a 47-35 lead into the break.

Led by the inside play of 7-foot center David Greer, the visitors closed to 64-60 with 8:50 remaining in the game. But, three baskets by Quiller, a three-point play by McMullin in transition off a long pass from Chris Hunter, and a jumper by Darryl McCaster, helped restore a double-digit advantage with just over four minutes remaining.

McMullin equaled his season-high in points that he scored against Hosanna Bible in a November game.  The 6-3 forward made 12 of his 19 shots from the field.  His second half production included a trey and two old-fashioned three-point plays.

Quiller was an efficient 9-for-12 from the field and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. McCaster finished with 12 points. The Flyer non-starters outscored their Warbirds counterparts 48 to 13.

The victory was the ninth in a row for Coach Mike Apple's squad. Greer finished with 25 points and 11 rebounds for the team from Durham.
