Sandhills Robinson makes Commitment to Chowan
Inside the Hanger Friday afternoon in front of his teammates, coaches and supporting members of the Flyers community. Damien Robinson made the decision on where he would continue his academic and athletic playing career.
Robinson closes out his Sandhills playing career averaging 16.4 points per game, 11.8 rebounds per game and 1.5 assists per game. Robinson also surpassed 1000 career points this past season and sits at 1151 total points.
Damien leaves Sandhills with some more accolades and achievements. 2023-24 Region 10 Freshman of the Year, 2023-23 Region 10 1st team and he was one of only 50 junior college players selected to participate in the 2024 NCAA Basketball Academy.
During this past season for the Flyers Robinson was named the 2025 NJCAA Region 10 Player of the Year, was selected to the NJCAA National Championship all tournament team and was selected to participate in the NJCAA Men's Basketball All-star game.
I'm super excited. I can't wait to do it, go out there. I just really, just for more talent, you know, ready just to go out there and have fun and things of that nature," he said.
Robinson now makes the jump from the NJCAA D2 Juco level to the NCAA Division II level and joins the Chowan Hawks. He also joins three other former Flyers to play for the Hawks. Calvin Ahoume, Chase Barnett and Zach Riddle.
"Just going on a visit with Coach Burke, he really explained everything thoroughly. He was an alumnus there, so he was very passionate about everything he was saying. Basically, he had a plan built out of what he wanted to get done. Shout out to any other school that recruited me, but I also want to say thank you to all the other schools that reached out to me as well. Chowan, it just stood out the most 'cause it felt like home, and it just felt natural," Robinson said.
Chowan competes in the Conference Carolinas under head coach Rob Burke in Murfreesboro NC. The Hawks compete in a conference with Barton, Belmont Abbey, Converse, Emmanuel, Erskine, Ferrum, Francis Marion, King, Lees-McRae, Mount Olive, North Greenville, Shorter, Southern Wesleyan, UNC Pembroke and Young Harris. The Hawks are coming off an impressive season finishing with an 18-10 overall record and a 14-6 record in the conference.
