Flyers Sweep Wake Tech on the Road

Sandhills Community College volleyball earned a straight-set victory over Wake Technical Community College on Tuesday night, winning 25-22, 27-25, and 25-18. The Flyers used timely defense and a steady attack to secure the sweep and continue their strong early-season play.

The Flyers finished with 36 kills as a team, led by a standout performance from sophomore Katelyn Bunting, who tallied 10 kills on an impressive .533 hitting percentage. "Tipping was my go-to tonight," Bunting said. "I had a massive block in front of me and I knew I had to be smarter with the ball. My teammates were very helpful. They told me what was open and when to put the ball there."

Brooke Emore added 10 kills and seven digs, while Taylor Miller chipped in five kills. The Flyers' setting duo kept the offense balanced, as Averi Cuddeback handed out 18 assists with two aces, and Reagan Malpass added 10 assists and five digs.

At the net, Sandhills combined for 6.5 total blocks, with Madison Scheffler leading the charge with three solo blocks and one assist. Liz Bryson contributed three kills, five digs, and a block. Defensively, libero Olivia Rosy collected 10 digs, and Jacque Holden added eight with two service aces.

Bunting also emphasized her approach to two-way play at the net. "I try to focus on my job at the net," she said. "When the ball is on the opposing side, I am solely focused on blocking, but when the ball is on our side, I am focused on putting the ball down."

With the win, the No. 2-ranked Flyers improve to 13-0 as they turn their attention to a big Saturday at home. Sandhills opens Region 10 play at 11 a.m. against No. 6 Caldwell Community College in a matchup of nationally-ranked teams, followed by a 3 p.m. contest with USC Salkehatchie.

Saturday is also Camp Day in the Hangar, as all Flyers Volleyball summer campers are invited to attend free of charge and are encouraged to wear their camp t-shirts. The day is sponsored by Jersey Mike's Subs, who will provide giveaways and prizes during contests throughout the matches.
