The Sandhills Community College Flyers volleyball team dominated the NJCAA Division III Region 10 Tournament on Saturday, sweeping both of their matches to capture the Region 10 Championship on their home court. The Flyers defeated Patrick & Henry Community College 3–0 (25–13, 25–21, 25–13) in the semifinal before downing Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute 3–0 (25–16, 25–20, 25–20) in the championship match.
Before the action began, Region 10 announced its postseason awards, and several Flyers were recognized for standout seasons. Freshmen Madison Scheffler and Olivia Rosy earned All-Region Honorable Mention honors, while Averi Cuddeback and Katelyn Bunting were named to the All-Region First Team. Brooke Emore was selected as the Region 10 Player of the Year, and Head Coach Alicia Riggan was named Coach of the Year after leading Sandhills to another championship season.
Semifinal: Flyers Sweep Patrick & Henry
In their first match of the day Brooke Emore led the Flyers with eight kills, ten digs, and a solo block. Katelyn Bunting added six kills, a block, and an ace while hitting .294. Taylor Miller chipped in four kills and a block, and Madison Scheffler contributed three kills and three block assists at the net.
Setter Averi Cuddeback directed the offense with 11 assists and added 10 digs, while Reagan Malpass tallied eight assists and an ace. Defensively, Jacque Holden and Rosy each recorded 10 digs to help the Flyers limit Patrick & Henry to just 47 total points across three sets.
Championship: Emore, Bunting Lead Flyers Past Caldwell
The championship match followed a similar script, with the Flyers maintaining control throughout and closing the day with another sweep—this time over Caldwell. Region 10 Player of the Year Brooke Emore delivered a dominant performance with 14 kills, three aces, and 15 digs while hitting an impressive .370. Bunting was equally effective, posting seven kills on .429 hitting with four block assists and an ace.
Scheffler continued her strong play with four kills and three block assists, while Miller added seven kills. Cuddeback dished out nine assists and added five digs, and Malpass ran the offense efficiently with 20 assists and an ace. Rosy anchored the defense with 10 digs.
Up Next
With the Region 10 title secured, the Flyers advance to the NJCAA Mid-Atlantic District Championship next Saturday, November 1, where they will face Butler County Community College in Butler, Pennsylvania. A victory would send Sandhills back to the NJCAA DIII National Championship Tournament.
